This affordable housing apartment building consists of 24 apartments on 4 levels including two apartments for the disabled situated on the ground floor. There is an adjacent secure car park. The building was constructed on bored piers with a suspended ground floor slab on void formers. (Specifically for the unstable local soil conditions)
The external walls and central core were constructed using precast concrete panels fabricated off site and then installed ahead of the suspended floor slabs. The slabs were formed utilising the proprietary Ultrafloor environmentally friendly precast concrete beam system thereby eliminating the need for internal columns and allowing us to accelerate the construction programme and decrease cost. An architectural feature of timber fins to the full height of the building facade required team work between the architect and Cox Constructions to determine the most suitable timber species and finish to enhance the buildings appearance and to improve whole of life value and reduce maintenance costs.
